Support for autistic and neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults.

Sometimes it helps to have someone who understands how your child experiences the world. Or someone who can help you make sense of your own needs as you get older.

At Haven, I work with young people and parents on the parts of everyday life that feel difficult. For young children, that may mean reducing challenging behavior by building communication, regulation, and routine skills. For teens and young adults, it often means working toward independent life skills — managing school, work, daily tasks, and relationships with more confidence.

    Based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Jennifer Phelps, founder of The Haven Family Center

    Hi, I’m Jennifer.

I’m a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with more than 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families.

My background includes behavioral health, education, and parent support. Across those fields, I’ve learned how important it is to understand the person beyond the concern that brought them in.

I want to know what matters to you, what is already working, and where things are getting hard. That is where we begin.

    What brings you here?

You do not need to know exactly which service to ask for. You may simply recognize something here.

    • Your child comes home from school overwhelmed, and evenings are difficult.
    • Friendships are confusing or take more energy than others realize.
    • Your teen needs help with planning, getting started, or following through.
    • Changes in routines or expectations are hard to manage.
    • You are a young adult figuring out college, work, relationships, or daily responsibilities.
    • You want to understand your child better and feel more confident about how to help.

We can talk through what is happening and whether Haven would be a good fit.

Getting to know the person comes first.

A diagnosis can tell us something, but it does not tell us everything.

I take time to understand each person’s communication, sensory needs, interests, relationships, and experiences. Together, we identify useful goals and consider what support or changes in the environment could make daily life easier.

There is room to build skills while respecting differences. Being more comfortable, having more choice, and being able to ask for what you need all matter.

Everything is individualized to the person in front of us. For children, that often means play- and movement-based work that meets them where they are and builds from their strengths.
